Partnership for Resilience and Sustainable Innovation in Management
SDG PRIMe is a DAAD funded project focusing on developing educational materials for transformation management in the so-called twin transition – the combination of digitalisation and sustainability.
Preparing for the Leadership of the Twin Transition
The EU Green Deal aims to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. Central measures include the Circular Economy Action Plan, expanded eco-design regulations, consumer empowerment, textile sustainability strategies, updated packaging rules, revised waste directives and the introduction of a Digital Product Passport (DPP). To achieve this, companies must monitor production processes and document the use of energy, water, and hazardous substances. While digitalisation was previously driven mainly by efficiency and growth, today the focus is increasingly on transparent value creation. However, information and communication technologies already generate almost four per cent of global CO₂ emissions, making sustainable digitalisation essential.
The concept of a twin transition combines digitalisation and sustainability to strengthen companies’ resilience and future readiness. To succeed, ecological impacts must be reduced, while change processes should follow a human-centred and socially just approach. Sustainable digitalisation therefore requires both environmental responsibility and respect for human, civil, and labour rights, with affected stakeholders involved early in the transformation process.
